Apple has been a big part of my life for a long time and I love a lot of the stuff they do, but when it comes to browsers, they haven't been the best. Safari is good, but I like to customize my internet experience which is why I use Firefox. I find Safari to be constricting in its approach. There is no customization of the interface and there are no add-ons. The one thing I do like is that when you download a widget or a program, Safari automatically dumps them in the right spots and lets you install them immediately.
When I heard that Apple was releasing Safari on the Windows platform, I was a little happy, but mostly upset. Of course I want PC users to experience the joys of Mac software, but Safari isn't the best way to do it. Most PC users are like me and they've shunned the OS centric browsers like Safari and IE for programs like Firefox and Opera. They too would like to customize the looks of their navigation bars and add as many extraneous add-ons as possible so they can feel like they're making their lives easier when in reality, they're making them a little more difficult.
From what I've read on other blogs, the experiences people are having with Safari for Windows is less than good. Granted, it's a public beta, but some have gone so far as to say that it's no better than an Alpha release. Apple, hear my plea - if you want people to switch, keep putting out the great hardware/software combinations you've been putting out for years (iPod-iTunes, iMac-Mac OS X, iPhone-Mac OS X, etc...). The more people see and use your devices, the more likely they'll switch over when the time comes for them to buy a new computer. I know I did and it was the best decision I'd ever made.
I hope Apple fixes Safari for Windows enough for its official release because I want to see more people switch. I don't want them being left with a sour taste in their mouths because one program didn't live up to its potential.
